Portrait Hanna Desmond

Hanna Desmond, born in Weingarten in 1995 and now living in Basel, is one of the most remarkable voices in contemporary photography. As a black and white photographer, she creates works that are characterised by their timeless aesthetics and her playful exploration of the concept of time. Timelessness and poetry are central themes in her work, in which she captures transience and memory through light and shadow.

Her artistic career began in music and painting before she found her own artistic expression through photography. Inspired by artists such as Jakob Tuggener, Brassaï and the conductor Sergiu Celibidache, her work explores the relationship between atmosphere, light and emotion.

A highlight of her career to date was the presentation of her series ‘Paris and Berlin by Night’ as part of Berlin Photo Week. These works are an artistic homage to the poetry of urban landscapes at night and the emotional power of lighting moods.

Hanna Desmond's works invite viewers to re-explore their own perception of memory, emotion and urban aesthetics through her lens.
